Informal care is a valuable but often challenging task. That is why Surplus offers information, advice and support for family members who care for a loved one with a physical condition, mental vulnerability or disability. Next period a number of free workshops and courses are planned that we would like to bring to your attention.
Morning Group Dementia and (N)u
A Dementia and (N)u group for partners and children with the condition of dementia starts five times a year. On April 18, the next group of eight weekly meetings begins from 10 a.m. to noon at Activity Center The Slotjes. First, there will be an explanation of exactly what dementia means. How does perception change and how does this affect a loved one's behavior? How do you deal with situations of restlessness, anger or just passivity? These are just a few of the many questions discussed. In addition, attention is paid to finding care and support. And very important: How can I, as an informal caregiver, take good care of myself?
Useful to know: The caregiver can bring his or her loved one. There is in fact at the same time and location The Meeting Place for people with dementia (or other memory problems). People can have a cup of coffee at this Meeting Place and also -if they feel like it- participate in an activity or have a chat. The caregivers are attuned to the participants and see who needs what. This allows the caregiver to participate in peace.
Informal care from A to Z
The three free workshops Mantelzorg van A tot Z help family caregivers deal with the changes and loss they face. Life is not engineerable, but it is steerable. Therefore, we will discuss the following topics with the group:
* Self-care and relaxation
* Setting priorities and boundaries
* Options for care and support
Mantel caregivers engage in exercises during three Tuesday afternoons from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Activity Center De Slotjes. The focus is on sharing experiences and learning from each other. The meetings will take place on June 11, 18 and 25.
For health and welfare professionals: Lunch + Brainstorm “How do you support family caregivers?”
On June 20, Surplus Mantelzorg is organizing a lunch and brainstorm for local professionals. Do you have an eye for the qualities and needs of informal caregivers? Or, do you lack time, information or tools? Are you curious about what informal care support can mean for you and your clients? Join us from 12.00 to 13.30 in Activity Center De Slotjes in Oosterhout. Together we can get further!
