As a family caregiver, you are actually always short of time. While you know it is necessary to take time for yourself. 1. Start with ten minutes for yourself each day
Make a list of things that give pleasure and relaxation. What do you need? Often the answer lies in small things. A refreshing walk, writing in your journal, or calling that friend you don't talk to enough due to busyness. Plan a set time each day all to yourself and put a cross in your calendar. Ten minutes is already a good start.
2. Start setting boundaries, for yourself and those around you
Do you find it difficult to set boundaries? If so, you are not alone. Many family caregivers struggle with prioritizing and setting boundaries for loved ones. 3. Make use of substitute care
Do you need someone to replace you when you are working, taking care of business or relaxing? Discuss this with family and friends. Who knows, together you may be able to find a way to get around the schedule. Is volunteer or professional help needed? On the Mantelzorg.nl website, follow the “I'm looking for substitute care” guide. This will help you find the form of care that suits your situation. Make use of it!
