In the story series ‘Who do I have on the line?’ client supporters of Zorgbelang Brabant|Zeeland tell about their daily work. Who do they talk to? With which questions? How are issues resolved and what do they encounter?
In this episode of ‘Who do I have on the line,’ client support worker Ineke van Wel. Ineke gets clients/caregivers on the line every day who ask her to help them arrange their (long-term) care or the care of a loved one.
Ineke: ‘So did a mother whose mentally disabled daughter resides in an institution. According to the mother, her daughter was given too heavy medication too quickly. The mother has brought it up in a conversation with the institution but cannot come to a conclusion. I agreed with her that I would go with her to a meeting with the neurologist.’
Buffer
It is a frequently heard complaint at the Zorgbelang Adviespunt; people often feel that they themselves or their partner/relative are receiving too much or too heavy medication. ‘You then have to have a conversation about that,’ Ineke explains. ‘We can then accompany you. At meetings with doctors but also at multidisciplinary meetings at institutions. Informal caregivers sometimes worry a lot about the care of their child. And then it's nice to have a client supporter who can put things in perspective and clarify things. Acts as a connecting factor/buffer to bring the parties closer together. That works well for both the client and the institution.’
