World Lights Day: Reflecting on loss and grieving with support from Surplus

December 8 is World Lights Day: a day of global attention to grief and loss.

OOSTERHOUT - Every year on the second Sunday of December, World Lights Day takes place. On this day, deceased children are remembered worldwide and mourning and loss are considered. Surplus wants to offer extra support on this day to anyone who has lost a loved one, whether it is a child, partner, family member or friend. Especially for this occasion, Surplus Mantelzorgondersteuning offers free the guide “Dealing with Grief and Loss.” to.

Tools for everyday life

This guide is full of practical tips for getting back to life after loss. With concrete tools, the guide helps you cope with grief and find structure. For example, it includes advice on building a daily rhythm, cherishing memories and discovering what gives energy, such as hobbies and moments of enjoyment.

Embracing vulnerability and finding support

Grief often involves complex emotions and can be a heavy burden. The guide encourages embracing vulnerability, reflecting on feelings and seeking support when needed. In addition, it helps to identify what you really need from those around you.

How do I get the booklet?

The Guide “Dealing with Grief and Loss.” is available free of charge at Surplus' activity centers in Oosterhout: De Slotjes, Dommelbergen and De Bunthoef. From December 2, the guide will be available upon entering these centers.
