More and more people are dealing with dementia. As a person, partner, child, friend or neighbor. Understanding what is going on in your loved one while continuing to take good care of yourself can be a challenge. Surplus organizes the Dementia and (N)u support group five times a year. The next group will start on Thursday morning, June 12 in Activity Center De Slotjes.
During the meetings of Dementia and (N)u, developed by the Into dmentia Foundation, you as a caregiver gain insight into what is happening in the mind of your loved one. You learn to cope better with behavior that changes, how to set boundaries and how to ensure balance in your own life. In addition, there is plenty of room to share experiences and find support from each other. We will discuss situations such as: “My partner keeps asking questions. I notice that my patience is running out, but then I feel guilty. How do I keep this up?” or “My mother wants to go home at night, even though she ís already home. She gets restless, even angry, when I try to reassure her. How do I deal with this?’ The course not only provides knowledge, but especially recognition, acknowledgment and practical tips. Together with other family caregivers we will discuss the impact of dementia on brain, behavior and communication, care options, safety, finances and more. The new group starts on Thursday mornings, June 12, from 10 a.m. to noon at De Slotjes Activity Center in Oosterhout. Meetings will take place on June 12, June 19, June 26, July 3, July 10, July 17, July 24.
